Product: Parking Sensors System

How Conventional Parking Sensor System Work

All parking sensor system consists of a control module, 2 to 4 ultrasonic sensors, a buzzer unit or display unit. The ultrasonic sensors are mounted on the front or rear bumper of the vehicle. These sensors transmit ultrasonic sound wave and receive sound wave reflection from objects to enable the control module to determine the distance of the objects and alert the driver via the buzzer or display unit during parking.

Weaknesses of Conventional Parking Sensor System

The ultrasonic sensors in conventional parking sensor system worked independently to transmit and receive sound wave. Its main weaknesses can be categorized into the followings:-
  1. Almost all parking sensor system now available in the market hard coded the various features of the system in the IC or hardware circuitry. These features include detection range, alerting buzzer and display zones, avoidance of objects fitted to the bumper and sensitivity of the sensor etc. This means that little can be changed after production of the system and you need to maintain large number of model variants to take care of numerous customers’ requirements.
  2. Due to tolerance of components and bumper differences such as thickness, material, height from ground, bumper curvature and installation workmanship, the conventional parking sensor system rarely function consistently from vehicle to vehicle after installation.
  3. In order to avoid false alarm from ground reflection and related warranty claims thereon, most parking sensor manufacturers intentionally compromising functionality by setting lower sensitivity. This resulted that some parking sensor system when installed onto vehicle fail to detect objects that should have been detected whereby render the system unreliable during parking.
  4. When false alarm from ground reflection occurred, installer required to dismantle and replace the system or open the control module to adjust the sensitivity settings manually. This usually requires a lot of time and it increases the installation cost especially in countries where labor cost is high.
  5. Due to sensor tolerance and sensitivity settings of the control module, sensor interchangeability is questionable. One may need to change the entire system when only one of the sensors is damaged or you may need to trouble shoot sensitivity again after replacement of a damaged sensor.
The introduction of active or digital sensors failed to eliminate most of the above weaknesses. Active or digital sensors merely move part of the circuitry to the sensor and at most it reduces electrical noise interference and improved sensor interchangeability only. The cost increase of active or digital sensors does not seem to out-weight its improvements.

What is new in e-Parksensor

With the inherent weaknesses of conventional parking sensor system in mind, we designed the new generation parking sensor system now know as e-Parksensor. e-Parksensor has several new revolutionary features that eliminate substantially if not all the weaknesses of conventional parking sensor system mentioned above.

PC Interactive via e-Parksensor Window based Software

Unlike conventional parking sensor system, e-Parksensor does not hard code the features of the system in IC or hardware circuitry. It structured the program settings which determine the features of the system into 40 to 50 changeable variables collectively known as profile. Just connect the e-Parksensor system to the specially designed e-Parksensor Interface Jig and the e-Parksensor Window based software to perform changes. Changing the changeable variables or profile change the features of the e-Parksensor system instantly. This eliminates the need to maintain numerous model variants to meet your customers’ ever growing requirements. The features that you may change seemed endless including the followings:-
  • Buzzer and display alerting zones
  • Maximum detection range for both corner and center sensors up to 96 inches
  • Avoidance of objects fitted to bumper such as tow hook, bull bars, spare tires and others
  • Changing from front to rear application or vice versa
  • Changing display type and measurement such as inches, feet or meter if digital display is available
  • Changing from 4 sensor system to 3 or 2 sensor system
  • Changing false alarm notification method
  • Changing detection sensitivity zones
e-Parksensor made possible for you to do changes when necessary but you can continue to order e-Parksensor system preloaded with the desired profile during production. This means that you enjoy the flexibility of the system without added work.
Changes to the changeable variables or profile can be done on and off vehicle. This means you can still perform changes after installation of the system to the vehicle without dismantling the system. Thus, it is extremely helpful for OEM business when developing new system for new vehicle. You can try numerous different profiles after the e-Parksensor system has been fitted to the test vehicle until satisfaction without the need to wait for samples from the manufacturer. Just save and send us the tested profile upon completion and we can mass produce the system using your tested profile.

Multi Zoning Technology

The sensors of all conventional parking sensor system available in the market work independently. It uses single sensing method with single common object definition for the entire detection area. e-Parksensor grouped the sensors into groups and provides a supplemental alternative sensing method in addition to the conventional method. This effectively divides the coverage area into several vertical and horizontal zones with different sensitivity and object definition whereby improving the coverage with lesser blind spot.
Conventional 4 sensor system is much in demand mainly due to the lack of coverage of the 2 sensor system especially in the middle of 2 sensors. However, the 2 Sensor e-Parksensor system which has much better coverage over conventional 2 sensor system is well suited for any mid-sized vehicles in the market. Even if the 2 sensors are installed at 32 inches apart, the 2 sensor e-Parksensor system can still detect 3.5 inches diameter PVC round tube in the middle of the sensors and alert the driver when the object is approaching 12 inches to the bumper. This is particularly beneficial for mid-sized vehicles in the market where installation and painting labor cost is high. Belows are the horizontal coverage of the 2 sensor e-Parksensor system and 4 sensor e-Parksensor system.

Self or Automatic Calibration

As mentioned above, all conventional parking sensor system rarely function consistently from vehicle to vehicle due to tolerance on components, bumper material, thickness, height of sensor installation and curvature of the bumper etc. Parking sensor system should be best calibrated after installation in order to optimize performance and avoid any false alarm from ground reflection. Conventional parking sensor system always pre-set the sensitivity during production and manual adjustment after installation is difficult and time consuming.
e-Parksensor system is capable of performing self or automatic calibration to maximize performance after installation to the vehicle. The entire process of calibration is automatic and takes only several seconds. You can perform the self or automatic calibration on vehicle without dismantling any part of the system from the vehicle. Just connect the e-Parksensor system to the e-Parksensor Interface Jig and e-Parksensor Window based software to performed self and automatic calibration. Calibration can also be triggered by a small handheld jig without PC or laptop.
When triggered by e-Parksensor Window based software, e-Parksensor software automatically keep a record of the calibration in the local station and such record can be retrieved for future reference or to be forwarded to the manufacturer should any problem occurred. e-Parksensor Window based software may automatically send calibration records to our server when internet connection is available. This allows our engineers to assist in monitoring the installation and calibration for any potential problem that may have occurred. You may configure e-Parksensor Window based software accordingly if you wish to keep the records private.
Self or automatic calibration is particularly essential for OEM business where installation and QC is done on assembly line basis. We can extend self or automatic calibration further to include automatic QC checking and records of QC checking can also be kept at local station. A special designed QC Jig is required for this purpose.

True Changes from Front to Rear Application and Vice-versa

e-Parksensor system can be easily and truely change from front system to rear system and vice-versa. It operates differently depending on whether the system is set to front system or rear system.

Exclusivity

e-Parksensor system can be configured to allow you exclusivity. This means that your customers must come back to you or your authorized dealers if they wish to change any setting or replacement of damaged sensor.

Comparison of e-Parksensor and Conventional Parking Sensor System

Selection of Control Modules

We provide several different Control Modules. Each Control Module may have few variants which differ in speed and capacity. Selection of Control Module is very much dependent on the features required.

Selection of Sensors

Features and functionality of parking sensor system are much dependent on the control module and not the sensors. Active sensors only work with certain control module. Selection of sensors is much up to the liking of the customers and the bumper materials.

Selection of Buzzer and Display

Like the sensors, choice of buzzer and display has no impact on the features and functionalities of the parking sensor system. Certain buzzer and display only work with certain control module because of power and voltage.
